Magnolia Woods Civic Association has always been concerned with the security and safety of our neighborhood. One of the association’s first accomplishments was establishing a Neighborhood Watch program. The association has organized community meetings to discuss safety and security concerns and receive information from the police. MWCA has also established signs at major intersections designating the MWCA neighborhood and informing drivers to be cautious of children playing. MWCA calls upon all of our neighbors to assist in keeping our neighborhood safe and secure.
MWCA urges residents to use the Magnolia Woods Nextdoor.com social networking site and the [email protected] neighborhood email list-serve to quickly report and be notified of any security issues in the neighborhood.
MWCA has also operated a Citizens On Patrol (COP) program for many years. MWCA provides magnetic decals for automobiles and neighborhood volunteers drive through and observe the neighborhood. Any suspicious activities are immediately reported to the police. Patrollers do not confront anyone involved in any suspicious activity.
We need many more volunteers to increase the effectiveness of this program. The route is about 30 miles and takes about one hour to complete. You can volunteer for Citizens on Patrol by calling 766-1329 and speaking with Joe Parker.
For Magnolia Woods residents who are interested in monitoring security issues in our immediate area, the Baton Rouge Police Department Crime Statistics and Incident Maps provides a list of incidents reported to the police and are updated on a daily basis.
