It’s Reforestation Time Again
“The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is today.”
This year Baton Rouge enjoyed one of those rare autumns in the South when our trees displayed glorious fall colors, much like what one would expect to see in more northern climes. It is a timely reminder of the beauty and enjoyment we receive from our magnificent urban forest, especially here in Magnolia Woods.
We owe a debt of appreciation to those who had the vision to nestle the neighborhood among the trees and maintain the forest over the years. It is our turn to carry on the tradition. On that note, the Magnolia Woods Civic Association is announcing its third tree give away as part of our ongoing reforestation project.
The MWCA board decided to move the event earlier in the year so the trees can better establish themselves before having to withstand the summer heat. We are offering native tree species from the attached list (Southern Natives for Magnolia Woods) to the first 25 requests on a first come first served basis. We will also provide planting instructions and planting assistance for those who are unable to plant their new trees.
